Ecsm 2017 4th European Conference On Social Media

These proceedings represent the work of researchers participating in the 4th European Conference on Social Media (ECSM 2017) which is being hosted this year by Mykolas Romeris University, Vilnius, Lithuania on 3-4 July 2017. ECSM is a recognised event on the international research conferences calendar and provides a valuable platform for individuals to present their research findings, display their work in progress and discuss conceptual and empirical advances in the areas of social media. It provides an important opportunity for researchers and practitioners to come together to share their experiences of researching in this varied and expanding field. The conference this year will be opened with a keynote presentation Dr. Edgaras Leichteris, who will address the topic Society in the cloud - what is the future of digitalization? The second day of the conference will be opened by Daiva Lialyte who will be talking about Practical point of view: push or pull strategy works on social media? With an initial submission of 115 abstracts, after the double blind, peer-review process there are 40 Academic Research papers, 10 PhD Research, 3 Masters Research and 1 Work in Progress papers published in these Conference Proceedings. These papers represent truly global research in the field, with contributions from Australia, Austria, Canada, China, Colombia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Egypt, Finland, Germany, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Lithuania, The Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Turkey, United Kingdom and United States of America.

Conference Proceedings of 8th European Conference on Social Media

These proceedings represent the work of researchers participating in the 5th European Conference on Social Media (ECSM 2018) which is being hosted this year by Limerick Institute of Technology, Ireland on 21-22 June 2018.

These proceedings represent the work of contributors to the 7th European Conference on Social Media (ECSM 2020), supported by UCLan Cyprus, Larnaca on 2-3 July 2020. The Conference Chair is Dr Christos Karpasitis and the Programme Chair is Mrs Christiana Varda, from the University of Central Lancashire - Cyprus (UCLan Cyprus). ECSM is a relatively new, but well-established event on the academic research calendar. Now, in its 7th year, the key aim remains the opportunity for participants to share ideas and meet. The conference was due to be held at UCLan Cyprus, but unfortunately, due to the global Covid-19 pandemic it was moved online to be held as a virtual event. The scope of papers will ensure an interesting conference. The subjects covered illustrate the wide range of topics that fall into this important and ever-growing area of research.

Giving visibility to interesting or leading edge applications of social media is the objective of the Social Media in Practice Excellence Awards Competition. We have been looking for effective social media applications in business or in the public sector. The call for case histories was announced in late 2015 and 20 submissions were received describing on an outline basis a social media initiative. 15 contributors were invited to forward a full case history. A panel of judges chose the case history finalists who are invited to present their work at the 4th European Conference on Social Media, in Vilnius, Lithuania in July 2017. The emphasis of the successful case histories is on innovative, creative and effective social media applications and the finalists published in this book are demonstrating this. Submissions to the competition this year are widespread with contributions from Austria, China, India, the USA and the UK. The initiatives are also diverse, and include a customer engagement application in China, The FOSSIL Project from the United States that uses social paleontology to bring together paleontologists from across the spectrum of expertise, the EDINA Digital Footprint Consultancy & Training Service from the UK, the Traditions Challenge which encourages student participation in school activities from the USA, a system using Digital Natives’ Everyday Social Media Behaviour to Anticipate Their Acceptance of Technology Innovations In Business from Austria and a case history looking at Social Big Data Processing.

This book explores the role of social media in the daily practice of Polish criminal justice and how social media is, in turn, reshaping this practice. Based on empirical research, it confronts common beliefs about how police officers, prosecutors, and judges use social media in their work. Readers will find answers to the following questions: Which social media platforms are popular among law enforcement officers in Poland? How do the police use social media to investigate and prosecute crimes? What are the strategies for using social media to communicate with the community? What strategies are most successful? The findings in this book challenge some popular beliefs and theories about social media in criminal justice. As the first book to explore the use of social media in criminal justice outside of English-speaking countries, this collection of academic research will be of interest to academics focusing on criminology, criminal justice, and policing and will be useful to police leaders and officers, police social media administrators, prosecutors, and judges, who may be inspired by the research to implement new successful and more effective practices.
