Professionals in modern psychology, behavioral medicine, and psychoneuroimmunology are exploring ways in which we can "mentally" influence our own bodies through hypnosis, imagery, visualization, attention, intention, and other forms of self-regulation--for fostering physical and psychological health and well-being. Is it possible for us to use such techniques to influence others, even at a distance, for purposes of healing? Is it possible for us to influence the images, thoughts, behaviors, and physiological reactions of other persons--separated by distance--without conventional sensory means of interaction? Can these abilities extend to animals and even to cells (e.g., human red blood cells)? Might these abilities be involved in the efficacy of distant, mental, or spiritual healing and intercessory prayer? Might these influences even extend to events distant in time--even "backwards in time?" Do these influences have major implications for our scientific theories, our human identity, the interconnections between ourselves and nature, and our relationships with others? Careful laboratory work--described in detail in this book--suggests that the answer to all these questions is a resounding "Yes!" A personal introduction and 12 detailed chapters describe the evidence that supporst these important claims. The book also describes the factors that make such distant mental influences more or less likely, so that anyone might use these distant influence skills more effectively and consistently for their own benefit and for the benefit of others.

'Mind to Mind Thought Transference' Distant Mental Influence Practical Thought Transfer From Psychotherapy by James J. Walsh Telepathy can be defined as the transference of thought from one person's mind to that of another, or several other people simultaneously, usually subconsciously. There is a very general impression that it is possible, at least under certain circumstances, for one human mind to influence another at a distance without any of the ordinary known means of communication. Many people have had the experience of thinking about a friend whom they have not seen for a long while, and shortly after meeting him. Sometimes it is found that the friend was making up his mind to bring about the meeting just about the time that the thought of him came. Many have had the experience of writing a letter and having it cross in the mails with another from their correspondent, evidently written within a few hours, though there had perhaps been no communication for weeks or months before. There are people who insist that they can, by concentrating the mind and fixing their eyes on the head of a person some distance in front of them in a theater, or a railway car, cause the person to turn around. There are others who say that by thinking strongly of some person in a distant part of a large room, that person can be made to think of them. In general, there are many persons who are quite sure that there is evidence enough to indicate the possibility of distant mental influence, or, as it has come to be called learnedly, telepathy.

Even though it is still difficult for many to accept that our minds have the ability to influence and acquire information at a distance - that is to say, by unconventional means - there have already been several attempts to apply these abilities. This work provides a review of state-of-the-art practical applications of our mind's ability to obtain information at a distance, even from the future, and its ability to influence - always distantly and unconventionally - the behaviour, emotions, and physiology of human beings and biological and physical targets. Within the rich variety of these applications, some are already common outside the sphere of pure scientific research because their efficacy has by now been validated, while others' applicability still require fine-tuning so that they too, in a not too distant future, become real mental technologies.
