The chronology of Biblical events is studied in this book to provide a more accurate analysis of events in the Old Testament from the creation of Adam to the captivity of Judah. This covers the book of Genesis through the second Chronicles. A great deal of focus is directed at establishing the correct exodus date and resolving many chronological issues. Supplementary extra-Biblical sacred texts are used. The Egyptian and the Near East historical records are correlated with Biblical events. The first chapter looks at issues that have created bottle necks in chronological analyses for ages. These issues are then resolved in the next three chapters. After resolving the chronological issues, the Hebrew Kings and Judges are dated more accurately than any existing model. There is overwhelming evidence that the exodus occurred earlier than the conventional 1446 BC date. The history of Ancient Egypt around this date does not in any way justify the condition of exodus as described in the Bible. The exodus date is more accurately and convincingly determined to be 1680 BC. The Pharaohs of the exodus and of the era of Joseph and Abraham are determined and analyzed. This prompts the revised dating of the Egyptian kings list. This book provides a lot of data. Over 205 Biblical events from Genesis to Chronicles are dated. 50 regnal dates of Egyptian pharaohs are also revised.

Download The David Story: A Translation with Commentary of 1 and 2 Samuel Book in PDF, Epub and Kindle
"A masterpiece of contemporary Bible translation and commentary."—Los Angeles Times Book Review, Best Books of 1999 Acclaimed for its masterful new translation and insightful commentary, The David Story is a fresh, vivid rendition of one of the great works in Western literature. Robert Alter's brilliant translation gives us David, the beautiful, musical hero who slays Goliath and, through his struggles with Saul, advances to the kingship of Israel. But this David is also fully human: an ambitious, calculating man who navigates his life's course with a flawed moral vision. The consequences for him, his family, and his nation are tragic and bloody. Historical personage and full-blooded imagining, David is the creation of a literary artist comparable to the Shakespeare of the history plays.

Download Linguistic Dating of Biblical Texts: Volume 2 Book in PDF, Epub and Kindle
Since the beginning of critical scholarship biblical texts have been dated using linguistic evidence. Until now there has been no introduction to and comprehensive overview of the field. Volume 2 of Linguistic Dating of Biblical Texts contains an extensive overview of dates attributed to different books and corpora of the Hebrew Bible in modern scholarship, demonstrating the lack of consensus on the dating of biblical texts. A synthesis of the main arguments of the work is presented, drawing also on many points from volume 1, followed by 50 pages of case studies, a list of linguistic features attributed to LBH in earlier research, a bibliography of 70 pages and several indexes.

Download Dating the Old Testament Book in PDF, Epub and Kindle
Dating the Old Testament addresses the subject of when the books of the Bible were written. It explains why the books of Genesis through Deuteronomy are a literary unity, and how the Egyptian background for these books support a date of writing during the exodus generation. It provides a detailed critique of the Documentary Hypothesis, the theory that Genesis through Joshua were created from four different sources usually labelled J, E, D, and P. It provides extensive evidence that all of Isaiah was written by Isaiah himself, and shows why Isaiah may have had a role in the collection and publication of other Old Testament books. It describes why the book of Daniel should be considered a product of the early Persian era and not the much later Maccabean period. The book contains a discussion of how the Hebrew language changed during the Old Testament era, and how this can be used to help date the books of the Old Testament.
