William Ashton research collection consists of a hand written manuscript that eventually turned into the 1972 book "Corrections to text in Cheney, Names on the face of Montana" which made corrections to the place names book by Roberta Carkeek Cheney published in 1971. Collection also includes an unfinished typed manuscript of a place names book. Typed manuscript includes, in alpahbetical order, Montana towns from Abe through Gebo. 1975 correspondence between Ashton and Western Interpretive Services discussing the background behind "Corrections" are also included. In the wake of an election seen by many as a triumphant victory for “moral values,” political commentator and one-time seminarian Bill Press launches a counteroffensive against the so-called religious right.
