"Contract Bridge for New Bridge Players" is a series of 50 lessons my wife, Christine, and I started teaching to beginning Social (or Party) Bridge Players over 10 years ago. We wrote our own lessons for our classes. A copy of each week's lesson was given to each student each week and was available to any student that missed a class so that they could keep up with the lessons. The lessons are based, in part, on my experience playing and teaching bridge for over 60 years.Because this book is written for beginning Social Bridge players (as opposed to more experienced players), the following considerations have been made in "Contract Bridge for New Bridge Players": 1. In Social (or Party) bridge, partners often change every 4 to 6 hands. Therefore the bidding system used is very simple and will be understood by most Social Bridge players.2. Bidding shown in the book tends to be conservative so that beginning players will be successful (make their bid) when they play a hand and therefore gain confidence.3. Only one Convention (Blackwood) is used.4. When I teach a class, I am there to answer questions. With this book, I have tried to anticipate and answer a variety of questions that may occur. 5. To personalize the book and make it more interesting, I have included a number of bridge stories from my family. Some go back to when my parents were playing duplicate bridge in the 1930's - soon after Contract Bridge was invented. At that time, they had to create their own bidding system. This led to some challenging situations.I hope you find that "Contract Bridge for New Bridge Players" helps you to enjoy the game of bridge and that you become an avid bridge player.Frank Walsh
