The matter dealt with is of great public importance, and concerns the public at large quite as much as the legal profession, because Contempts of Court frequently arise from ignorance on the part of laymen of the law upon the subject - which law is so elastic that it is difficult to define or limit it in its length and breadth, depth and height. It has often been con tended that it ought to be defined and limited (both as to the offence itself, and its punishment) by Act of Parliament.
