Includes examples of engraved and/or lithographed invitations, business and trade cards, letterheads, programs, announcements, checks, certificates, calendar pages, portraits, and vignettes. Representing the work of more than 40 different printing and engraving firms. The majority of items for which the printer or engraver is indentified are from New York, Boston, Philadelphia, or Chicago. Other locations represented include Providence, Albany, Toronto, Minneapolis, and Danville, IL. There are trade cards and samples from several bank note companies and from retail stationers such as Tiffany & Co. and John Wanamaker. The engravings included cover a wide array of subject matter, including patriotic, maritime, landscape, mythological, occupational, ornamental, and architectural themes.
