Excerpt from The Scottish Poets: Recent and Living In submitting a new edition of Recent and Living Scottish Poets to the favour of the public, the author desires to recapitulate what he said in the preface to the former edition, - namely, that the greater portion of the work appeared first as a series of brief Biographical Sketches in the newspaper press during the year 1880. These Sketches, with emendations and additions, were issued in book form early in the following year. The work having gone out of print almost immediately on publication, he now has the pleasure of issuing an augmented and thoroughly revised edition, which, he hopes, may meet with similar success.
