In Bottled Up Inside: African American Teens and Depression, Rose Jackson-Beavers, a veteran social service administrator, discusses what causes depression, how parents and others can identify symptoms, seek treatment options and resources. Her goal is to reduce the stigma of mental health and assist young people and others to ask for help.

Brendan Madden is in the midst of his senior year of high school and couldn't be happier. He has a great group of friends, his pick of colleges, and he has recently come to terms with his sexuality. One night, he meets Mark Galovic, a gorgeous, younger classmate of his. In a matter of minutes, Brendan is hooked. As the friendship between them grows, Brendan reaches his breaking point when he spontaneously confesses his feelings to him. Brendan is shocked and elated to find out that Mark feels the same way about him. The two begin to date, but because Mark is not out, it must remain a secret. As their friends and family become suspicious, openly gay Brendan becomes increasingly frustrated with their discreet relationship, while Mark becomes more and more paranoid that they're going to be found out.

A weekend getaway to a beautiful beachside town with an old friend should have been a relaxing change of pace for Dell Powers. But then, when is her life ever relaxing? While walking on the beach Dell discovers a quite unique, antique bottle complete with a note inside. Thinking it would make a great addition to her Inn, she digs it out of the sand. Her weekend takes a turn for the dangerous shortly after, so Dell packs up and heads home early, where she is safe. Could this bottle be more than it seems? At home, she and her son, Kevin, set out to solve the mystery but she soon discovers that trouble has followed her home to Lakeshore. Can they put the puzzle pieces together before something terrible happens?

This is my poem book describing my life experiences, both good and bad. This was the only way I knew how to express my emotions and I used this as an escape. Every life experience you can think of, is written about in this book.

It is a startling and somewhat disturbing fact that social work researchers-as well as research psychiatrists and psychologists-have rarely explored the treatment situation from the standpoint of the client. Client and Agency, first published in the 1960s, explores by means of free-fl owing interviews, a close-up picture of the client's experiences at a social work agency. There has been a growing awareness of the importance of consumer opinion in the social services following the wide spread impact of consumer groups, particularly those concerned with educational and medical services. Social work agencies have hesitated, uncertain about the researchers and their methods, and fearful of the outcome. But it is desirable that they incorporate the views of consumer groups because client opinion is one way of checking the effectiveness of their work. The practice of social work requires the application of knowledge derived from a variety of sources and academic disciplines. It is frequently difficult to relate conflicting evidence and diverse theories about human behavior for use in day-to- day work with acutely troubled and deprived people. It points to the need for more extensive studies of both consumers and suppliers of social work services because it raises many pertinent questions. In Client and Agency clients of a Family Welfare Association discuss the kind of help they expect to receive, their impressions of the social worker and the treatment process, and the ways they felt they were helped or not helped.
