Birds In Alaskas South Coastal Environment

A bird study program for 4th graders who attend school in the forested parts of coastal Alaska.

This publication describes the bird communities of major mainland rivers of southeast Alaska and is based on a review of all known relevant studies as well as recent fieldwork. We synthesized information on the composition, structure, and habitat relationships of bird communities at 11 major mainland rivers. Information on current management concerns and research needs are also included.

Prepared by Fish and Wildlife Service in cooperation with Forest Service, Alaska region. Eagles are described and their problems, habitat, nest locations, feeding habits and protection outlined.

Covers the species known to have occured in Alaska as of June 25, 1979, organized by families. Gives information on identification, status, distribution and habitat.

This water-resistant, color-illustrated book helps in identification of nests and eggs of birds on Alaska's coastal tundra. It covers the Alaska Peninsula, the Bering and Chukchi sea coasts, and the Arctic Coastal Plain including the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and includes photos of the birds.
