Excerpt from Bait Casting The offset handle and finger trigger grip have come about during the last few years. Some time ago the straight handle was used almost exclusively on casting rods. The new handle with the finger trigger enables you to get a better grip on the handle of the rod and to use your wrist in making the cast. Your grip Should be firm, but not so rigid or tight as to hamper free movement of your wrist. Your three fingers against your palm will exert the greatest pressure. This is necessary in order to give your thumb the proper relaxation and freedom for the Important thumbing of the reel. You should feel that you have complete con trol of the rod and reel (plate 2 gives the correct grip). Note that the reel handles are straighttup, the fingers press the rod into the palm of the hand, and the thumb rests on the flange of the spool.
