Field Manual FM 5-434 MCRP 3-17.7I Earthmoving Operations This field manual (FM) is a guide for engineer personnel responsible for planning, designing, and constructing earthworks in the theater of operations. It gives estimated production rates, characteristics, operation techniques, and soil considerations for earthmoving equipment. This guide should be used to help select the most economical and effective equipment for each individual operation. This manual discusses the complete process of estimating equipment production rates. However, users of this manual are encouraged to use their experience and data from other projects in estimating production rates. The material in this manual applies to all construction equipment regardless of make or model. The equipment used in this manual are examples only. Information for production calculations should be obtained from the operator and maintenance manuals for the make and model of the equipment being used.

This manual describes the organizations, processes, procedures, and systems involved in the control of movements across the military spectrum. The focus of this manual is for the reader to gain an understanding of the movement control system and how it functions from the strategic to the tactical level. It focuses on the planning, controlling, and managing of the use of available modes of transport to move units, equipment, and materiel. It also describes transportation request procedures, container operations, and how transportation resources are controlled and managed. The Chief of Staff of the Army has mandated that the Army be able to move a combat capable brigade anywhere in the world within 96 hours. To put a viable combat capability on the ground anywhere in the world in this time frame will require effective movement control. This manual remains consistent with Army operations, logistics doctrine, and concepts currently published or in the process of being published. However, the reader is cautioned that logistics doctrine is changing - and changing rapidly. The on-going efforts to reduce the Army logistics footprint and move to the Objective Force will require doctrinal change. Users acting within the scope of their authority may vary from this doctrine in this manual when such variation will result in improved operations. The Army's environmental strategy into the 21st century defines its philosophy and commitment in protecting and preserving the environment and natural resources for present and future generations. Sound environmental practices and considerations must be integrated into all Army documents, missions, and operations. In keeping with the Army's vision to be a national leader in environmental stewardship, commanders and leaders must ensure that all local, state, federal, and host nation laws and regulations pertaining to the environment are included in the planning process and followed to an extent consistent with operational considerations.

"Field Manual (FM) 5-436 provides essential information to military personnel who are engaged in or responsible for bituminous and concrete operations for roads and airfields. It contains information on construction materials and equipment and the mix design, production, placement, and repair of concrete and bituminous pavements. Emphasis is primarily placed on the duties and responsibilities of engineer platoon sergeants, platoon leaders, company commanders, and staff personnel during bituminous and concrete operations. In addition technical engineering specialists (military occupational specialty [MOS] 51T) are involved in quality control of bituminous and concrete operations."-From the Preface.

This volume is the fourth in a series of books that Battles & Book Reviews Publishing is releasing that encompass reprints of public domain US Military manuals that are useful to the prepping community. This book contains the full text and images contained within the April 2003 version of Field manual 5-34 Engineer Field Data. This manual is packed with useful data tables on just about every aspect of military operations. It was one of my go-to manuals during my own military career and I always had a copy in the turret of my Bradley behind the coax ready box so I could get to it without digging when I needed it.
