Excerpt from Annual Report of the Adjutant General of the State of Michigan, for the Year 1856 For instance - agreeable to law, any 40 men, between the ages of l 8 and 45, may organize themselves into a Volunteer Company - procure uniforms similar to those used in the Regular Arm y - choose their ofli csrs, and upon announcing their progress thus far to this Department. Commissions necessarily must be forwarded, and then follows a demand upon the Adjutant General for a requisition upon the Quarter Master General for the quota of arms to which they are entitled.
