Owing to the almost complete occupation of this area by streets and buildings, it is no longer an easy matter to map it geologically, and it will probably be a considerable time before an accurate plan can be completed of certain small areas in the centre of the town. In addition to the mapping of the Lower Witwatersrand System, a portion of the area occupied by the upper division of the System to the south of Johannesburg has also been mapped on a corresponding scale.
