Download An Overview of Tevatron Collider Run II at Fermilab Book in PDF, Epub and Kindle
The Run II era at Fermilab began in March 2001. Many changes to the accelerator complex were made to support the Tevatron proton-antiproton collider operation with peak luminosities of 2-4 x 1032 cm−2 s−1 while delivering greater than 5 fb−1 of integrated luminosity before the LHC begins its physics program. This report describes the current status of Run II operations and the machine performances needed to achieve the goals.

Download Accelerator Physics at the Tevatron Collider Book in PDF, Epub and Kindle
This book presents the developments in accelerator physics and technology implemented at the Tevatron proton-antiproton collider, the world’s most powerful accelerator for almost twenty years prior to the completion of the Large Hadron Collider. The book covers the history of collider operation and upgrades, novel arrangements of beam optics and methods of orbit control, antiproton production and cooling, beam instabilities and feedback systems, halo collimation, and advanced beam instrumentation. The topics discussed show the complexity and breadth of the issues associated with modern hadron accelerators, while providing a systematic approach needed in the design and construction of next generation colliders. This book is a valuable resource for researchers in high energy physics and can serve as an introduction for students studying the beam physics of colliders.

Download Hadron Collider Physics 2002 Book in PDF, Epub and Kindle
Hadron colliders probe physics at new energy frontiers and search for new particles and forces. In addition, hadron colliders now provide also an environment for precision physics. The present volume collects the results from recently completed runs at major colliders as well as new ideas about collider physics and techniques. It will serve as the main source of reference in the field for many years to come.

During the 1988--1989 run, the Fermilab Tevatron proton-antiproton collider exceeded the design luminosity goal of 103°/cm2/sec and delivered 9.6 pb/sup /minus/1/ of integrated luminosity at 1800 GeV to the CDF experiment. Based on the operational experience accumulated during this collider run, the performance of the Tevatron collider will be reviewed. This review will treat not only the Tevatron itself, but also the auxiliary accelerator systems necessary for collider operation. The performance and the limitations in each of the accelerator subsystems will be discussed and analyzed. The plans to overcome some of these limitations in the next collider run will also be discussed. Finally, the status of longer-term upgrade proposals for the early 1990's focused on increased luminosity will be presented. 10 refs., 2 figs., 2 tabs.

Download Run II Luminosity Progress Book in PDF, Epub and Kindle
The Fermilab Tevatron Collider Run II program continues at the energy and luminosity frontier of high energy particle physics. To the collider experiments CDF and D0, over 3 fb−1 of integrated luminosity has been delivered to each. Upgrades and improvements in the Antiproton Source of the production and collection of antiprotons have led to increased number of particles stored in the Recycler. Electron cooling and associated improvements have help make a brighter antiproton beam at collisions. Tevatron improvements to handle the increased number of particles and the beam lifetimes have resulted in an increase in luminosity.

Download Anomaly! Collider Physics And The Quest For New Phenomena At Fermilab Book in PDF, Epub and Kindle
'Dorigo provides an engaging and insightful perspective on the pursuit of physics discoveries at CDF … Dorigo’s book is thus almost certainly going to be an important source for anyone interested in the history of CDF … It is a personal yet highly informative story of discovery and almost-discovery from the perspective of someone who saw the events firsthand.'Physics TodayFrom the mid-1980s, an international collaboration of 600 physicists embarked on the investigation of subnuclear physics at the high-energy frontier. As well as discovering the top quark, the heaviest elementary particle ever observed, the physicists analyzed their data to seek signals of new physics which could revolutionize our understanding of nature.Anomaly! tells the story of that quest, and focuses specifically on the finding of several unexplained effects which were unearthed in the process. These anomalies proved highly controversial within the large team: to some collaborators they called for immediate publication, while to others their divulgation threatened to jeopardize the reputation of the experiment.Written in a confidential, narrative style, this book looks at the sociology of a large scientific collaboration, providing insight in the relationships between top physicists at the turn of the millennium. The stories offer an insider's view of the life cycle of the 'failed' discoveries that unavoidably accompany even the greatest endeavors in modern particle physics.
