Excerpt from An Exposure of Christian Science The distinctive feature of Christian Science is its quiet but resolute opposition to the Christian faith. Writers and lecturers who discuss from within the Churches the steadily advancing propaganda of Mrs. Eddy's disciples usually adopt a tone of deferential, almost humble, inquiry. They treat the Scientists as a body of sincere though misguided believers, from whose teaching we have all much to learn, and whose natural enemies are the doctors rather than the clergy. The deadly errors of Christian Science are not understood or are veiled in a cloud of rhetoric. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from An English View of Christian Science: An Exposure I attribute the wretchedly nervous condition in which I have remained all summer. AS my sister was absent from England, 1 had no alternative but to spend my holidays in London. Helen Dalziel's brother, the editor Of the Fortnightly journal of Science, had promised me some re search work at the British Museum, so that I hoped to add a few pounds to my income. Helen did not at all approve of my keeping on our rooms during August and September. You are on the verge Of a nervous breakdown, she said, when we came home from the last morning at school, each laden with baskets of flowers which our girls had presented to us. Usuallyl delight in my flowers, but this year llooked at them without the smallest interest or pleasure. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from The Religio-Medical Masquerade: A Complete Exposure of Christian Science The founder of this pretended religion, this bogus healing system, audaciously and irreligiously pro fessing equality of character and of power with Jesus, has, throughout her whole long life, been in every particular precisely antithetical to Christ. Sordid, mercenary, unprincipled, the consuming passion of her life has been the accumulation of money, and she has stopped at no falsehood, no fraud and no greater wickedness that seemed to put her in the way of adding to her accumulations, or overcoming her supposed enemies. Jesus condemned nothing so forcefully as the mercenary spirit. With a whip he scourged the money changers from the Temple, and in language that burned as flaming fire he denounced the hypo crites and liars of his time as like unto whited sepulchers that are indeed beautiful outward, but within are full of dead men's bones and all un cleanness. If the language of this book seem severe, if its denunciations are emphatic, if things are called by their right names and facts handled without the least equivocation, if contrasts are drawn between the founder of Christianity and the founder of Christian Science that seem to border upon the irreverent, let it not be assumed that there is in the heart of the author the slightest particle of personal animosity, or in his attitude toward real Christianity and Christ anything but the most complete reverence. Excerpt from The Christian Science Movement: Reprinted From the New York Sun, Revised and Enlarged Never in the history of Christian Science has the move ment been so much talked about as it is to-day. Those who understand it least discuss it most, for the Christian Sci entists themselves are workers, not talkers. The movement has become marked not only in its home, America, but all over the world. When asked to give a review of the work and character of the Founder, the Reverend Mary Baker Eddy, and to tell something of the scientific and medical basis of the movement, and of its religious work, a representative Christian Scientist wrote the following statement. Excerpt from Christian Science X-Rayed Mrs. Eddy goes on and on in her claims to supernatural powers of supremacy. She said that no one else can take her place. I have been to Wednesday evening Christian Science church meetings and all' of their testimonies give no uncertain sound in exalting Mrs. Eddy and her teachings. Any religious system that magnifies man's wisdom instead of glorifying Christ is a dangerous cult. - 2 John 7-11. To all who love the truth, and especially to Dr. J. E. Conant, evangelist, and Mr. C.
