An Astrological Revolution

Like the prostrate pilgrim on the front cover --with his head protruding through the vault of heaven to discern the working of the cosmos --humanity has for many centuries employed astrology to penetrate the mystery of the stars' relationship to human destiny. Based on decades of research into both astrological reincarnation and the history of astronomy/astrology, The Astrological Revolution unfolds this mystery. This basis, the tropical zodiac, emerged through Greek astronomers from what was originally a calendar dividing the year into twelve solar months. Based on recognition --through the newly discovered rules of astrological reincarnation, that the sidereal zodiac presents an authentic astrological zodiac --a new practice of astrology is possible that offers tools to reestablish a wisdom-filled astrology in the modern world. For instance, the book demonstrates the newly discovered rules of astrological reincarnation through the previous incarnations of composer Franz Schubert and his patron Joseph von Spaun --respectively, the Sultan of Morocco, Abu Yusuf Ya'qub, and his erstwhile enemy, Alfonso X, the Castilian King known as "El Sabio" (the Learned), along with their sidereal horoscopes. Rudolf Steiner's biography is also considered in relation to the sidereal zodiac and the rules of astrological reincarnation. After reestablishing the sidereal zodiac as a basis for astrology that penetrates the mystery of the stars' relationship to human destiny, the reader is invited to discover the astrological significance of the totality of the vast sphere of stars surrounding the Earth. The Astrological Revolution points to the astrological significance of the entire celestial sphere, including all the stars and constellations beyond the twelve zodiacal signs. This discovery is revealed by studying the megastars, the most luminous stars of our galaxy, illustrating how megastars show up in an extraordinary way in Christ's healing miracles by aligning with the Sun at the time of those miraculous events. This book explores the changing perspective of astrology from the Middle Ages to the Early Modern Era. It introduces a framework for understanding both its former centrality and its later removal from legitimate knowledge and practice. The discussion reconstructs the changing roles of astrology in Western science, theology, and culture from 1250 to 1500. The author considers both the how and the why. He analyzes and integrates a broad range of sources. This analysis shows that the history of astrology—in particular, the story of the protracted criticism and ultimate removal of astrology from the realm of legitimate knowledge and practice—is crucial for fully understanding the transition from premodern Aristotelian-Ptolemaic natural philosophy to modern Newtonian science. This removal, the author argues, was neither obvious nor unproblematic. Astrology was not some sort of magical nebulous hodge-podge of beliefs. Rather, astrology emerged in the 13th century as a richly mathematical system that served to integrate astronomy and natural philosophy, precisely the aim of the “New Science” of the 17th century. As such, it becomes a fundamentally important historical question to determine why this promising astrological synthesis was rejected in favor of a rather different mathematical natural philosophy—and one with a very different causal structure than Aristotle's.

The Jewel of Annual Astrology is an encyclopaedic treatise on Tājika or Sanskritized Perso-Arabic astrology, dealing particularly with the casting and interpretation of anniversary horoscopes. Authored in 1649 CE by Balabhadra Daivajña, court astrologer to Shāh Shujāʿ – governor of Bengal and second son of the Mughal emperor Shāh Jahān – it casts light on the historical development of the Tājika school by extensive quotations from earlier works spanning five centuries. With this first-ever scholarly edition and translation of a Tājika text, Martin Gansten makes a significant contribution not only to the study of an important but little known knowledge tradition, but also to the intellectual historiography of Asia and the transmission of horoscopic astrology in the medieval and early modern periods.

This book is an English translation of Book 25 of the Astrologia Gallica, in which Morin explains how to make Mundane Predictions for a particular place by using Aries Ingresses and Lunations (along with their quarters) as the main tools. He discusses the common use of Solar and Lunar Eclipses for that purpose and concludes that they are of only minor importance and do not have the long-lasting effects usually attributed to them. He also discusses the possibility of drawing some conclusions from the Conjunctions of the outer Planets and even from Comets. Morin was a physician who became the most renowned of all French astrologers. He was appointed Royal Mathematician to King Louis XIII and was summoned to be present at the birth of the royal heir, the future King Louis XIV. The present volume contains Morin's example charts of several Ingresses and one Eclipse as seen at Paris, France, in 1646, with a detailed explanation of his method of interpreting them. An added feature of this book is Jean Hieroz's statement of Offusius's rules for Planetary strength and Hieroz's own account of his efforts to use Morin's methods to predict the outbreak of World War II in 1939. Jean Hieroz (b.1889) was a prominent French astrologer in the 1930s and 1940s. He had studied under Henri Selva, the French revival astrologer who had rescued J-B Morin's Astrologia Gallica from obscurity and published the first translation of Book 21 of that work. James Herschel Holden is Research Director of the American Federation of Astrologers and has previously translated Books 13-17, 19, 22, 23, and 24 of the Astrologia Gallica.
