Questo volume contiene ventitré contributi, presentati durante la giornata di studi "Tra Appia e Latina, dinamiche insediative e sviluppo del territorio alle pendici dei Colli Albani", tenutasi a Febbraio del 2017, nelle sale del Reale Istituto Neerlandese di Roma (KNIR). Sono riportati alcuni approfondimenti sulla cultura materiale, sulla metodologia della ricerca e sulle tematiche che concorrono alla ricostruzione storico topografica dei Colli Albani, con particolare riguardo per l'area di congiunzione con il suburbio di Roma. Nel volume si raggiunge l'obiettivo di discutere alcuni dati di recente acquisizione e di presentare i principali risultati degli studi che negli anni si sono interessati a questo territorio. L'iniziativa ha visto coinvolti diversi enti di ricerca (Istituti stranieri, Università, Soprintendenze) e ricercatori indipendenti, al fine di stimolare il confronto e la circolazione delle conoscenze su una piccola, ma importante porzione della Campagna Romana. The open access publication of this book has been published with the support of the Swiss National Science Foundation. Death, the ultimate change, is an unexpected Leitmotiv of Ovid’s career and reception. The eighteen contributions collected in this volume explore the theme of death and transfiguration in Ovid’s own career and his posthumous reception, revealing a unity in diversity that has not been appreciated in these terms before now.

The 2015 TRAC proceedings feature a selection of 14 papers summing up some of the key sessions presented at the conference held at the University of Leicester in March 2015, which drew over 180 delegates of 17 nationalities from a variety of universities, museums, and research institutions in the UK, Europe, and North America. As this conference marked the 25th anniversary of TRAC, the volume opens with a preface commemorating the last 25 years with an eye toward the future direction of both conference and community. The proceedings begin with Dr Andrew Gardner’s keynote paper on the topic of ‘Debating Roman Imperialism: Critique, Construct, Repeat?’. This is followed by an array of papers with topics ranging in geographic scope and period, from small finds in early Roman Britain to bathing practices Late Antique North Africa, and from the investigation of deviant burials to the application of urban scaling theory in Roman contexts. Because of this diversity the volume is not broken into specific sections, however, papers with similar themes are grouped accordingly, allowing the text to flow and be read as a whole. The range of contributing authors is also of note, as papers were submitted by PhD students, post-doctoral researchers, and university faculty, all helping to make the 25th anniversary of this series one that continues to emphasis and reflect the aims of TRAC, both as a conference and as a conduit for exploring more theory-driven approaches to the Roman past.

This book treats theoretical and methodological implications of the classification of archaeological sites of the Roman period in regional survey and archaeology, and the potential of classifications for making intra- and interregional comparisons and interpretations. Overall the papers testify to the importance of surface survey as an autonomous form of archaeological investigation with well-developed methodologies and analytical frameworks able to generate data that is just as complex as that derived from excavation, and with a similarly wide interpretative potential.

The contributors to this volume provide an accessible and jargon-free insight into the notion of the Roman city; what shaped it, and how it both structured and reflected Roman society. Roman Urbanism challenges the established economic model for the Roman city and instead offers original and diverse approaches for examining Roman urbanization, bringing the Roman city into the nineties.
