Prepared jointly with Her Majesty's Nautical Almanac Office, United Kingdom Hydrographic Office. Designed in consultation with other astronomers of many countries. Provides current, accurate astronomical data for use in the making and reduction of observations and for general purposes. The Astronomical Almanac Online extends the printed version by providing data best presented in machine-readable form. Online data are provided for several years. Contains data for astronomy, space sciences, geodesy, surveying, navigation, and other applications. Also used for navigation by air and water. The Astronomical Almanac is a joint publication of the U.S. Nautical Almanac Office, United States Naval Observatory (USNO), in the United States and Her Majesty's Nautical Almanac Office (HMNAO), United Kingdom Hydrographic Office (UKHO), in the United Kingdom. This annual publication contains precise ephemerides of the Sun, Moon, planets, and satellites, data for eclipses and other astronomical phenomena for a given year, and serves as a world-wide standard for such information."

The Air Almanac contains the astronomical data required for air celestial navigation. The CD-ROM provides the following data tabulated at 10-minute intervals to a precision of 1 arcminute: the Greenwich hour angle and declination of the Sun, Moon, and three navigational planets; the Greenwich hour angle of Aries; rise and set times of the Moon for a range of latitudes; and other data. Each edition also contains sky diagrams for each month; sunrise, sunset, and twilight tables; and positions of the navigational stars. The Air Almanac is available nine months in advance of its edition date.

The Air Almanac 2018 contains the astronomical data required for air celestial navigation, making it a necessary resource for all pilots and others attempting to chart routes based on celestial bodies. This book is intended for readers who are either already familiar with celestial navigation or are planning to take up the subject, and want to learn about optional resources. This booklet does not teach celestial navigation, nor is it a copy of the Air Almanac. There are marine navigators who prefer the Air Almanac over the Nautical Almanac. This booklet compares the two almanacs so others can make their choice as well. The Sky Diagrams of the Air Almanac are an important resource for all navigators, but they can easily be overlooked by those who rely on the Nautical Almanac alone. With that in mind, we give these diagrams here a well deserved review and comparison with competing manual methods of predicting the best bodies to use for a round of sextant sights with an eye toward optimizing the accuracy of the resulting position fix.
