Although they are essentially emanations or avatars of the ultimate deity Olodumare, Orisha (also spelled Orisa and Orishas) are supernatural beings that are frequently referred to as deities in the Yoruba religion of West Africa. As a sort of abbreviation for "without number" or "innumerable," their number is typically represented as 400 + 1. According to archaeological evidence, the development of orisha worship occurred between 500 and 300 BCE, although it is likely considerably earlier because so many West African sites remain unexplored. The Yoruba people hold that Olodumare is too vast for the human mind to comprehend, therefore it unleashed several portions of itself, each of which was randomly assigned a definite zone of influence. Olodumare scattered the forces of dominion, and whoever Orisha grabbed was in charge of that domain.

Trinidad Orisha: Spirit, Color and Drums Orisha is a colorful and misunderstood religion practiced in Trinidad and Tobago with ties to the Yoruba culture of Nigeria. A spiritual tradition with celebrations of food, drums, dance, and prayer, Orisha has millions of followers in the world. Orisha of Trinidad, by Monique Joiner Siedlak, explores this African-routed tradition starting with a look at the roots of this vibrant and colorful tradition and how it evolved to where it is today. This fascinating book covers topics such as the past persecution of Orisha followers, the religion’s deities, practices, ceremonies, and ties to aspects of the Catholic Church. Monique brings light to the fact that there are those who, in their ignorance, still demonize this religion. The truth is, there is nothing demonic about Orisha. While it is a non-Christian religion, it shares the ideas of baptism and one supreme God — Oludumare. Readers will love reading about the Orisha spirits, equated with Christian saints, and seen as messengers between man and Oludumare’s divine Kingdom. For example, Osain, the Yoruba god of herbal medicine, healing, and prophecy associated with St Francis, and Shakpana, a healer of children’s diseases related to St Jerome. Then there is Ogun, the warrior god of iron and steel, associated with St Michael. Order your copy of Orisha of Trinidad by Monique Joiner Siedlak today, and introduce yourself to a rich and fascinating African-rooted tradition called Orisha. You will enjoy reading about this extraordinary tradition.

Èṣù is without a doubt, the most fascinating, astute and unpredictable of all Yorùbá Orishas. Central to Yorùbá Orisha religion, Èṣù is known as a divine messenger who is a mediator between man, the Orishas and the Supreme God Olódùmarè-Òlóòrun. He is also known as an instigator of intrigues and trickster Orisha. In this collection of tales, Èṣù takes center stage, as the main protagonist, where the reader will experience two sides of this enigmatic Orisha: the good and the bad, which are presented in a spirited form. Tales of Èṣù Yorùbá Divine Messenger and trickster Orisha are stories based on the African Yorùbá oral tradition of storytelling, which portrays the escapades and folly of this divine Orisha, utilizing a modern touch and simple language. Èṣù, as the first Orisha, is well-worshipped and extremely respected in Yorùbáland because he is literally present in everything; in nature, in objects and in the physical human body. For this reason, Èṣù is present in the majority of stories related to an infinite number of topics, as well as his relationship with the other Orishas in the Yorùbá pantheon. In this collection, Alex Cuoco presents 80 fascinating Èṣù tales that are retold with great skill and rhythm, in which Èṣù appears at his best, in various forms: as a trickster, messenger, instigator, officer and enforcer of the laws of Òrun (Heaven), as well as moderator, master-punisher, advisor, mediator, helper and administrator. The variety of themes of these tales affords the reader an acquaintance with the good and mischievous aspects of Èṣù. The reader will also experience Èṣù's sexual appetite and unusual sense of humor, which when combined, become a prominent aspect of Èṣù's explosive and surprising personality. In this manner, Tales of Èṣù offers the reader the opportunity to gain a deeper knowledge and understanding of Èṣù's character and his divine Àṣẹ (Power). This editio

The goal of this book is to help you find your Orisha path. Each person has a camino (path) they are meant to walk, and an Orisha meant to guide them. Fostering connections with your path and your guardian Orisha links your presence in the physical world more strongly with the spirit world.Orisha is found throughout the Americas, and in West Africa. It maintains one of the strongest oral traditions in practiced religion, and some estimates date it back to the 8th century A.D. Though there are countless Orisha, this book covers the eight main Orisha: Elegua, Yemaya, Oshun, Chango, Obatala, Oya, Orunmila and Ogun. These Orisha are often called the Seven African Powers (Oya and Orunmila replace one another within the Seven African Powers, depending on region), and each exerts control over the ebbs and flows of our lives. As you read of the Seven African Powers, my hope is that you gravitate toward one of them. While there are initiations and divinations which can more concretely set one in their Orisha path, the first step in finding one's path is to learn of the Orisha.A journey with the Orisha is spiritually enriching, and can bring clarity to situations which remain obscure. Each Orisha has preferred numbers, colors, and offerings. These will be covered, as will their stories, and the proper rituals through which you may reach them. Ultimately, your journey with the Orisha is your own, but hopefully this book can act as a guiding hand, so that you may find your path with one of them.
