This volume of the journal contains papers collected by results of the 9th International Conference on Advanced Materials Research (9th ICAMR 2019, 24-27 January 2019, Singapore) and presents the latest innovations and scientific discoveries covering all aspects of advanced materials research. We hope this collection will be interesting for many engineers and researches.

Advanced materials can be defined in numerous ways; the broadest definition is to refer to all materials that represent advances over the traditional materials that have been used for hundreds or even thousands of years. From this perspective advanced materials refer to all new materials and modifications to existing materials to obtain superior performance in one or more characteristics that are critical for the application under consideration. A more insightful and focused approach to advanced materials is to consider materials that are early in their product and/or technology lifecycle. In other words, there is significant room for growth in terms of the improvement of the performance characteristics (technology lifecycle) and their product lifecycle. The book presents new and important research in the field.

Including papers from the 9th edition of the International Conference on Computational Methods and Experiments in Material and Contact Characterisation this volume presents the work of selected researchers on the subject. Material and contact characterisation is a rapidly advancing field and this volume contains the latest research. Of particular interest to industry and society is the knowledge of surface treatment and contact mechanics of these materials to determine the in-service behaviour of components subject to contact conditions. Modern society requires systems that operate at conditions that use resources effectively. In terms of components durability, the understanding of surface engineering wear frictional and lubrication dynamics has never been so important. Current research is focussed on modification technologies that can increase the surface durability of materials. The characteristics of the system reveal which surface engineering methods should be chosen and as a consequence it is essential to study the combination of surface treatment and contact mechanics. The accurate characterisation of the physical and chemical properties of materials requires the application of both experimental techniques and computer simulation methods in order to gain a correct analysis. A very wide range of materials, starting with metals through polymers and semiconductors to composites, necessitates a whole spectrum of characteristic experimental techniques and research methods. New engineering materials, techniques and applications are constantly being researched and developed, and keeping up to speed with the latest advances is crucial for engineers if they are to successfully address the challenges they face in their work. This book presents the selected proceedings of MMSE2023, the 9th International Conference on Advances in Machinery, Materials Science and Engineering Applications, jointly organized by the SAE-Supmeca, France and China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) and held on 22 and 23 July 2023 in Wuhan, China. For the past 12 years, this annual conference has collated recent advances and experiences, identified emerging trends and provided a platform for participants from academia and industry to exchange information and views, helping to address the world’s machinery and engineering challenges. The book contains 4 sections: mechanical engineering, material science and manufacturing technology; electrical engineering, automation and control; modeling, simulation and optimization techniques in engineering; and advanced engineering technologies and applications. A total of 241 submissions were received for MMSE2023, of which 151 papers were selected for the conference and for publication by means of a rigorous international peer-review process. These papers present exciting ideas and methods that will open novel research directions for different communities. Offering a current overview of the latest research and applications in machinery and materials-science engineering, the book will be of interest to all those working in the field.

This volume of proceedings includes the selected papers presented at the 9th International Conference: Innovative Technology for Joining Advanced Materials (TIMA 18) held in Timisoara, Romania, during November 1 - 2, 2018. In the presented collection, particular attention is paid to specific problems in the joining of the various structural materials and developing the modern joining technologies.

This book summarizes the state ofthe art research presented at the Fourth International Conference on Frontiers of Polymersand Advanced Materialsheld in Cairo, Egypt in January 4-9, 1997. This conference follows the successful conferences held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in 1995, in Jakarta, Indonesia in 1993 andin New Delhi, India in 1991. These conferences focussed on the most recent and important advances in a wide range of carefully chosen subject areas dealing with advanced materials, their science and technology and new business opportunities resulting from recent technological advances. As its predecessors, the conference held in Cairo was truly international with strong participation of 488 deiegales representing 37 countries from the USA and Egypt, as weil as Europe, South East Asia, Japan, South Africa and the Middle East. The conference was organized by the Egyptian Academy of Scientific Research and Technology, The Arab Society ofMaterials Science and the State University ofNew Y ork at Butfalo. The stated goals ofthe conference were: • To highlight advances and new. findings in the general area of polymers and advanced materials. - • T o foster global collaboration between the USA, Egypt and other nations in the general field of polymers and advanced materials. • To promote the development of scientific ilifrastructure in this field among the different participating countries, especially in the Middle East. • To create a basisforfuture long-term scientific exchanges between the USA and Egypt, and/or other countries.
