A unique illustrated account of the war against the Boers Occasionally, a book can be most readily described as 'delightful' and this book is certainly one of that select category. Jackson was one of those soldiers who viewed life with a good humour and wherever that was possible, that was the way he has written his Boer War experiences. To add to the charm of his book he has peppered the text with his own humorous drawings which naturally ooze authenticity and add greatly to the reader's enjoyment of his narrative. Of course, it is impossible to write a book of war without the unpleasant business of battles and skirmishes making their presence felt and Jackson takes us through campaign, march, camp, skirmish and battle in absorbing detail. This is a book few students of the Boer War will want to be absent from their collections. Recommended. Available in hardback with dustwrapper and softback.
