Excerpt from A Method for the Identification of Pure Organic Compounds by a Systematic Analytical Procedure Based on Physical Properties and Chemical Reactions, Vol. 2: Containing Classified Descriptions of About 4000 of the More Important Compounds of Carbon With the Elements Nitrogen, Hydrogen, and Oxygen Experience gained through earlier prefaces has taught the author the uh certainty Oi predictions concerning future publications. It is, nevertheless, his expectation that this work will be completed in its first edition within a reasonable time by the publication of a fourth volume, which will include procedures for the identification of the more important organic compounds containing combinations of the elements that have not been treated.
