The purpose of this extensive annotated bibliography is to assist libraries in the United States, Canada, and other countries to identify, select, and secure publications of value in geography that are appropriate for the purposes and resources of each library collection. More than 2900 entries, published between 1970 and 1984, are arranged by general categories with numerous subdivisions: general aids and sources; history, theory, methodology, and geography; the physical geography; the human geography; applied geography; regional geography; and publications suitable for school libraries. Although publications in other languages have not been excluded, works in English have been emphasized. Basic information provided in each entry includes author, title, place of publication, publisher, publication date, number of pages, identifying numbers, price, Library of Congress card number, and a brief annotation. Where appropriate, translation information including translator and original language are provided. (LH)

This annually published Bibliography provides an overview of cartographical literature published around the world. Each annual volume lists approximately 2,000 monographs and articles published in some 400 periodicals. These are all analysed by an international group of collaborating experts. Among the topics covered are the history of cartography, cartographic personalities and institutions, the making of maps, areas such as topographical or atlas cartography, or maps for the blind, film and screen maps and the use of maps. Titles are listed in their original language and can be looked up either in the Author Index or in the English, French or German list of contents.

Geography in America at the Dawn of the 21st Century surveys American geographers' current research in their specialty areas and tracks trends and innovations in the many subfields of geography. As such, it is both a 'state of the discipline' assessment and a topical reference. It includes an introduction by the editors and 47 chapters, each on a specific specialty. The authors of each chapter were chosen by their specialty group of the American Association of Geographers (AAG). Based on a process of review and revision, the chapters in this volume have become truly representative of the recent scholarship of American geographers. While it focuses on work since 1990, it additionally includes related prior work and work by non-American geographers. The initial Geography in America was published in 1989 and has become a benchmark reference of American geographical research during the 1980s. This latest volume is completely new and features a preface written by the eminent geographer, Gilbert White.
