9th Dresden Polymer Discussion

The 9th Polymer Discussion from March 16th to 19th, 2003 was devoted to "Polyelectrolytes". The aim of the meeting was to cover aspects of polyelectrolytes from their synthesis, characterization and theoretical description to their application.

This book contains contributions of the 7th Dresden Polymer Discussion held in Mei?en near Dresden from April 19 to 22, 1999. The conference was dedicated to the field 'Characterization of polymer sorption phenomena: From solution to the surface'. Research in the area of modification and characterization of surfaces and interfaces of solids has been booming in the last few years, due to its enormous importance and potential for the development of novel technologies in materials research and engineering. Therefore the 7th Dresden Polymer Discussion, held from April 19 to 22, 1999, was dedicated to the field 'Characterization of polymer sorption phenomena: from solution to the surface'. The publication of the proceedings in this book may contribute to further progress in this field.

This proceedings volume contains selected talks and poster presentations from the 9th International Conference on Path Integrals ? New Trends and Perspectives, which took place at the Max Planck Institute for the Physics of Complex Systems in Dresden, Germany, during the period September 23?28, 2007. Continuing the well-developed tradition of the conference series, the present status of both the different techniques of path integral calculations and their diverse applications to many fields of physics and chemistry is reviewed. This is reflected in the main topics in this volume, which range from more traditional fields such as general quantum physics and quantum or statistical field theory through technical aspects like Monte Carlo simulations to more modern applications in the realm of quantum gravity and astrophysics, condensed matter physics with topical subjects such as Bose?Einstein condensation or quantum wires, biophysics and econophysics. All articles are successfully tied together by the common method of path integration; as a result, special methodological advancements in one topic could be transferred to other topics.

Volume 2

The fib International PhD Symposium in Civil Engineering is an established event in the academic calendar of doctoral students. It is held under the patronage of the International Federation for Structural Concrete (fib), one of the main international associations that disseminates knowledge about concrete and concrete structures. The 9th fib International PhD Symposium was held at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Germany, from July 22 to 25, 2012.

The contents have been divided into sections on physical states of polymers and characterization techniques. Chapters on physical states include discussions of the rubber elastic state, the glassy state, melts and concentrated solutions, the crystalline state, and the mesomorphic state. Characterization techniques described are molecular spectroscopy and scattering techniques.
