You might have joined the facebook groups or tried to meet friends at your military installation but part of you is still lonely, or you need validation for how you're feeling. In this book, you might read some tips you never knew, or you'll sit there nodding your head saying "yes girl!" or maybe you'll be raising one eyebrow thinking I'm totally off base. The #1 New York Times bestseller that charts America’s dangerous drift into a state of perpetual war. Written with bracing wit and intelligence, Rachel Maddow's Drift argues that we've drifted away from America's original ideals and become a nation weirdly at peace with perpetual war. To understand how we've arrived at such a dangerous place, Maddow takes us from the Vietnam War to today's war in Afghanistan, along the way exploring Reagan's radical presidency, the disturbing rise of executive authority, the gradual outsourcing of our war-making capabilities to private companies, the plummeting percentage of American families whose children fight our constant wars for us, and even the changing fortunes of G.I. Joe. Ultimately, she shows us just how much we stand to lose by allowing the scope of American military power to overpower our political discourse. Sensible yet provocative, dead serious yet seriously funny, Drift reinvigorates a "loud and jangly" political debate about our vast and confounding national security state.

In 1950, when he commissioned the first edition of The Armed Forces Officer, Secretary of Defense George C. Marshall told its author, S.L.A. Marshall, that "American military officers, of whatever service, should share common ground ethically and morally." In this new edition, the authors methodically explore that common ground, reflecting on the basics of the Profession of Arms, and the officer's special place and distinctive obligations within that profession and especially to the Constitution.

The U.S. military has been continuously engaged in foreign conflicts for over two decades. The strains that these deployments, the associated increases in operational tempo, and the general challenges of military life affect not only service members but also the people who depend on them and who support them as they support the nation â€" their families. Family members provide support to service members while they serve or when they have difficulties; family problems can interfere with the ability of service members to deploy or remain in theater; and family members are central influences on whether members continue to serve. In addition, rising family diversity and complexity will likely increase the difficulty of creating military policies, programs and practices that adequately support families in the performance of military duties. Strengthening the Military Family Readiness System for a Changing American Society examines the challenges and opportunities facing military families and what is known about effective strategies for supporting and protecting military children and families, as well as lessons to be learned from these experiences. This report offers recommendations regarding what is needed to strengthen the support system for military families.

"A heart-healing, mocs-on-the-ground story of music, family and friendship." -- Cynthia Leitich Smith, author of Tantalize and Rain is Not My Indian Name. Lewis "Shoe" Blake is used to the joys and difficulties of life on the Tuscarora Indian reservation in 1975: the joking, the Fireball games, the snow blowing through his roof. What he's not used to is white kids being nice to him -- kids like George Haddonfield, whose family recently moved to town with the Air Force. As the boys connect through their mutual passion for music, especially the Beatles, Lewis has to lie more and more to hide the reality of his family's poverty from George. He also has to deal with the vicious Evan Reininger, who makes Lewis the special target of his wrath. But when everyone else is on Evan's side, how can he be defeated? And if George finds out the truth about Lewis's home -- will he still be his friend? Acclaimed adult author Eric Gansworth makes his YA debut with this wry and powerful novel about friendship, memory, and the joy of rock 'n' roll.

This "study guide" that you are about to sink yourself into is like no other guide. Most study guides are written by large companies that could honestly care less about your personal well-being. They are out to make a quick buck off of you and that's it, they are done. That's business I guess, but it's not us. I'm going to tell you things about this test and the military that the that other companies, websites and even the military doesn't want you to know. See, the thing is that I don't want you to pass the ASVAB. I want you to excel in your career because the fact of the matter is that the ASVAB is a very important, but small piece of a very large equation. People think this test is one that you have to pass to join the military, but that's not quite true. In addition to entry, this test determines what jobs you qualify for, what military schools you can go to and if you can ever be an officer or not. It truly follows you for your entire career. My goal is to ensure that you maximize your study time focusing on the parts of the test that actually matter. I'm going to help you achieve at least a 110 GT score and an overall score of 50. The 110 GT score is the minimum score you need to become an officer. This is something you want to think about now because even if you think it's not something that you'll ever want to do, you're wrong. Trust me, I've been there. If you get an overall score of 50, you'll qualify for most jobs the military has to offer. The bad part about buying a book or a software program is that it limits what you can actually accomplish. You have no one to help learn the things you don't already know, no one to help guide your career or answer your questions about the test or life in the military. This is where I come in. I'm going to provide you an email that is a direct link to me personally. I want you to reach out to me and I'm going to do a couple of things. First, you'll be able to ask anything you want to and know that you'll get real world answers with no BS (friend and family members welcome). I'm not going to tell you what the military wants you to know, I'm going to tell you how it really is (good and bad). I'm not a recruiter, I'm a Soldier, but I'll get into who I am in just a moment. Second, I'm going to provide you a link to join my private social media network (again, friends and family members welcome). This isn't a site that you'll find with a Google search because I've hidden it. This site is only for my immediate group of mentees and their family / friends. At this site, you'll be able to address concerns, network with people who are in the same position that you are in and ask additional questions to a very select group of hand-picked (by me), senior military professionals that want to help the next generation. If you haven't figured it out yet, networking is one of the greatest assets that you will have in your career and I don't mean linked in for Facebook. I'm talking about real value networking. The contacts that you make now will be senior Officers and Non-Commissioned officers in just a few years, so keep that in mind. Third, you will be granted access to an additional site that is designed to help you in being as successful as possible on the ASVAB. This site has many additional practice tests and training videos that actually teach you the material needed to do well on the ASVAB test. Some of these videos are individual problems that most people have trouble with and some videos are complete walkthroughs of practice test that explain how to do each problem in detail. Whatever you are struggling with, it's there. We are professional teachers, trainers and mentors. Lastly, you and your family and friends will have access to access to my podcast where we talk about all things military. Starting with Basic Training / Boot Camp all the way through retirement. I also take a lot of time answering questions from recruits.
