T. Tertius Noble presents here a collection of free organ accompaniments similar to "Free Organ Accompaniments to One Hundred Well-Known Hymn Tunes." These two books taken together cover the hymn repertoire common to all types of American churches. Each hymn tune is arranged with the hymn melody on a separate staff above Noble's original accompaniment arrangement notated on the grand staff (without a separate pedal staff). These are perfect for accompanying choirs, soloists, or in congregational settings.

Excerpt from A New Selection of Sacred Music, Consisting of Nearly Two Hundred and Fifty Approved Psalm and Hymn Tunes: From the Works of the Most Esteemed Authors, Ancient and Modern, Comprising Nearly the Whole of the Popular Melodies IN the arrangement of the parts in the following work, the Air or principal melody has invariably been placed next above the Bass, and is always designed for female voices, and in the passages marked Pia, for them exclu sively. The convenience of those persons, who perform on the Organ, or other keyed instruments, has also been consulted in this arrangement, and by introducing double notes, where the parts move in thirds. To learners, or other persons not well, Versed in Music, it may be neces sary to state, that where such passages occur, the upper notes belong to the Air; the lower ones being always a second or subordinate part. The Tenor is placed next above the Air, and the Alto, or counter-tenor, on the upper stave, that the ledger lines, which are so frequent ly used in this part, may be incommoded as little as pos sible. Where double orchoosing notes are introduced in the Bass, the performer should in general, sing all the upper, or all the lower notes, or the effect will not be so good.
