We face a profound problem in this country and around the world, the plague of drug addiction. Lives are being lost and destroyed. Many people are affected by this issue in some way, via family members, friends, or co-workers. The question is, "How can people find true healing of the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs involved in their addiction?" The author proposes leading addicted people to faith in Jesus Christ. Jesus and the Addict: 12 Bible Studies for People Getting Free from Drugs is designed to help leaders in Christian faith-based recovery to guide those who come to their communities toward continuous freedom from drugs. The book contains twelve studies with biblical guidance on varying issues with which people in recovery struggle such as overcoming fear, learning to have hope, overcoming resentment, and dealing with forgiveness. Jesus Christ is the answer in all these things. Deepened relationship with Him and the transforming effect of His power and love bring redemption and new life. The book is intended for pastors, mentors, sponsors, and teachers - anyone working in jail, prison, transitional communities, or in churches to help recovering addicts. The studies are designed to be shared in large group settings, a speaker providing the teaching talk. Following that teaching time, the large group can then break out into small groups for discussion of the teaching. However, this material is workable within a single small group as well as a large one - the small group hearing the talk less formally and then discussing it. Each of the twelve lessons contains a verse or key verses from the Bible about a particular topic. Those Bible verses form the basis of the lesson. There is then a section with discussion about the background and state of mind of people seeking recovery for the speaker to consider about those who will be in the listening audience. The author's experience has largely been with people who are lower income or poor, but addiction affects all classes of society, and both urban and rural populations. The concepts discussed in the background and state of mind section are adaptable to varying recovery audiences. A prayer for the speaker is included next. Following the prayer, there is a sample talk section where some key points are given. This talk can be modified to fit the speaker's own experiences and their audience. And each chapter concludes with sample questions that can be used to stimulate conversation within your recovery group. The book also contains teaching and theology about the nature of God as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. An explanation of the cross event, resurrection, and the meaning of the Holy Spirit in the life of believers is explained such that people in recovery can understand God as being full of grace and as a source of great empowerment. The presentation of the present-day healing ministry of Christ gives hope to the addict that they can permanently be freed from drugs and feel the lifting of guilt and shame. They can also take their place as a useful and contributing part of the kingdom of God and in society. Dr. Pam Morrison, the author, is an ordained pastor from the Free Methodist Church. She has led or helped to lead six churches. She has volunteered with Prison Fellowship and has ministered with addicts in several settings. Her belief is that medical and secular means have been and are used to help addicts, but the greatest help anyone can receive to achieve permanent freedom is to find faith in Jesus Christ. So much more help is needed for addicts and families of addicts. We are short on places and those who will walk steadfastly with people seeking recovery. This is a ministry urgently needed in this hour.

Broken Chains: Principle to Overcoming Addiction is written for the individual who is caught in a lifestyle of bondage to sin and fear. It is also designed for anyone who has a loved one struggling with sins of this type and have a desire to educate, assist, and support him according to Gods Word. This book does not focus on motivational methods, but instead focuses on the foundational truths of Gods Word and its total sufficiency for solving all the problems facing man. This books purpose is to build hope for both the struggling addict and those who desire to help him through practical principles of faith, hope, and love through Jesus Christ. Individuals who are lost in the valley of addiction frequently ask God to remove the painful trial and its consequences for selfish reasons. Nevertheless, this time of trial, tribulation, and revelation of their true nature and character can be grasped as an opportunity to explore and expand their newfound faith and freedom in Christ. The hope for these lessons would be to build an understanding and confidence for tackling everyday issues and provide encouragement to persevere as trials are overcome and victories are achieved on an every day basis. Success in overcoming the battle of addiction will depend on the individual acknowledging Christs ability alone to set him free from bondage to sin and fear, thereby breaking the chains of addictions. After 20 years of suffering, being full of pride and arrogance, lost in a dark and lonely world, and having the experience of trying time and time again to change myself through people, places, and things, I finally had a solitary but failed attempt at suicide. Christ Jesus was finally allowed to pour down His Mercy upon me and I was given the gifts of His Grace, Faith, Repentance, and Redemption and I was changed into a new man that was created according to God in true righteousness and holiness. It was after this event that I received my calling from the Lord and He gifted me with a tremendous healing of the mind and the ability to remember His Holy Scriptures. I have sought to make Christ Jesus my Lord known to all men as I have come to know Him ever since. I have had the privilege of having the Lord educate and equip me for the last 25 years as a Pastor. The Lord has used numerous individuals, various Biblical courses and trainings, drug and alcohol education, and time of my own suffering in Christ to expand His purpose and plan for my life. Psalm 12:6-7: The words of the Lord are pure words, like silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. You shall keep them, O Lord, You shall preserve them from this generation forever.

This book has actionable information that will help you to overcome any addiction by faith and prayer through God. Addictions have the power to destroy lives for not only the addict but also the people they are close to or those they associate with. Think about it; you are married and addicted to porn, alcohol or drugs. Obviously, your bad habit(s) won't sit well with your spouse. In fact, these very habits could probably end up causing you to have lots of fights and mistrust. Worse still, the habits can end up being at the center of your separation with the man/woman you once vowed to love and protect till death do you part. Then the question that you ask is: why would someone get to the extent of doing something so harmful to themselves and their loved ones when they know this very thing could result in even greater problems? Well, simple - these are addictions and unfortunately, addictions don't make sense to the person who's not addicted. You just cannot wrap your mind around why it is so hard to stop drinking, drugs or watching porn when you are a wife/husband if you are not an addict. The desire to try it one more time is just too overwhelming to resist! If you are the addict, I know you understand how helpless it feels to be addicted, whether the problem is shopping, porn, TV, sex, food, alcohol, cigarettes, hard drugs, social media, etc. Given that you are reading this book, I am certain that you've tried many things and read a lot of materials that seem good on paper, but the one thing that these materials fail to do is sustain you through the period of being 'clean'. You've probably tried following many programs that failed to help you overcome your addiction. I've been there; I know how it feels to be helpless when it is something that you desperately want to overcome. Even if you are about to give up, don't; perhaps you should try a different approach. In any case, you shouldn't do the same thing every time and expect a different result, right? Well, perhaps you should give up your struggles to God, and let Him whose power is above every other take over your life. If you truly want to change, let Him who has the power to change you from the inside out do that for you in a way that you won't even be able to explain. This book will show you how to do just that by tapping into the power of prayer and faith to involve God in your life to help you overcome any addiction forever.
